Special events for National Carers Week
National Carers Week takes place every year in June and is supported by MPs, celebrities, local councillors and thousands of carers across the UK.
Six million people provide unpaid care to someone they know and, by providing that care, they save the economy an incredible £87 billion!
Three in five people will be carers at some point in their lives but still often feel isolated, exhausted and not aware of the help that is available to them.
Carers Week is from June 7 - 14 and in Calderdale the Carers Project will highlight the indispensable work done by carers.
On Sunday June 7 we will be holding a carers’ church service at St Ann’s in the Grove Church, Southowram. The thanksgiving service, which will be informal and interdenominational, will celebrate the work of all carers, professional and unpaid.
If you would like to bring the person you care for to the service with you, please do so. The service will start at 6pm and finish around 7pm when a buffet supper will be served in the church hall.
For catering purposes we need to know how many people will be coming to the supper so we would be grateful if you could complete the tear-off portion on the separate sheet of paper included in this newsletter and return it to us at our new address as soon as possible, but no later than June 1.
On Wednesday June 10 the Project will be at Halifax Town Hall promoting Calderdale Council’s new Carers Strategy and emergency back-up plans.
The Carers Project now has a supply of the SOS talisman necklaces/bracelets which we will be offering to everyone who has a back-up plan.
Useful advice and information will also be available from other agencies and this event will be officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Calderdale at 11.30am.
After the opening, refreshments and lunch will be available.
Why not come along, meet other carers, talk to Calderdale Carers Project staff and see what is being done locally to help carers?
Settling down in a new home
The main aims of the Project continue to be to raise awareness about carers and their needs and to provide a contact point for advice and information. But very recently that contact point has changed… because we’ve moved!
Our new address is: Calderdale Carers Project, Suite 3, Rimani House, Hall Street, Halifax HX1 5BD.
We can be contacted on the same telephone numbers during office hours and we are happy to ring you back.
Main Telephone No. 01422 369101/430948 Fax: 01422 369643
Our premises are very comfortable and after all our hard work it is now feeling more like home.
The building has been modernised and our new office is very bright and airy. We are located on the first floor but there is a lift available. Moving to Rimani House has obviously been a great deal of work and effort but we look forward to working ‘Smarter’ in offices that suit our needs. We are also pleased the new premises
represent significant savings in the current economic climate.
Our new home: Rimani House in Hall Street, Halifax
